Paschim Banga Awas Scheme 2026: Benefit Transfer to 10 Lakh Families

The very popular housing scheme of West Bengal, ‘Banglar Bari’, has now been renamed as ‘Paschimbanga Awas Yojana’. The current state government has changed the name of this old housing scheme. Along with the name change, the government has also provided final financial assistance to the beneficiaries of this scheme. According to the information received, a total of 10 lakh beneficiaries have received this assistance. And after providing the final payment, the state government has decided to provide financial assistance to the new beneficiaries of this scheme after Durga Puja.

We all know that under this scheme, each eligible beneficiary will get a total of Rs 1.20 lakh for the construction of a house. This money is paid directly into their bank accounts, so that only the genuine beneficiaries can avail this benefit without any discrimination.

Paschim Banga Awas Yojana West Bengal

The current Chief Minister of West Bengal, Subhendu Adhikari, in a recent cabinet meeting, has changed the name of the old housing scheme of West Bengal from ‘Banglar Bari’ to ‘Paschimbang Awas Yojana’. Along with changing the name of the scheme, the Chief Minister has also released the final payment of the scheme to all the beneficiaries. We all know that a total of Rs 1.20 lakh is given to the eligible beneficiaries under this scheme.

This same amount of money is given to the beneficiaries in two installments. So now this is the second and final installment, which has been given to a total of 10,20,397 beneficiaries. Each beneficiary is getting Rs 60,000 as the final payment. So, the government will release a total of around Rs 6,000 crore for the final payment.

Purpose of Paschim Banga Awas Scheme

The aim of launching this scheme is to provide permanent and secure housing to those people who cannot afford to buy or build their own houses. That is, the poor and low-income people are the main beneficiaries of this scheme. And the government also wants the financial assistance of the scheme to reach the actual beneficiaries directly without any problems.

Financial Benefits Given

• Total amount: Under this scheme, the West Bengal government provides a total of Rs 1.20 lakh to each selected and eligible beneficiary for the construction of a permanent house for them or their family.
• Installments: This entire amount of Rs 1.20 lakh is given in two installments. That is, this amount will be given in two installments of Rs 60,000 each. This installment amount is directly transferred to the bank account of the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
• Final payment to old beneficiaries: 10 lakh beneficiaries of the TMC government will receive the final or second installment of Rs 60,000 from the new government on August 6.
• Payment to new beneficiaries: Currently, a total of 58 lakh beneficiaries have applied for inclusion in this scheme. After verification, those of these new applicants who will be considered as genuine beneficiaries will receive the first installment of this scheme in October, i.e. after Durga Puja.

Who Can Apply for Paschim Banga Awas Scheme?

Therefore, it is now crucial to meet the terms and conditions of this government-mandated scheme. The government has adopted a very strict stance regarding the inclusion of only genuine beneficiaries in the scheme this time.

• The applicant must be an active voter and your name cannot be omitted during the SIR. If your name is omitted in the recent SIR, then you will be considered ineligible for this scheme.
• The applicant must not own a pucca house. That is, the applicant must live in a kutcha or temporary house.
• The applicant or any member of his family must not own a pucca house anywhere in India.
• You must be a member of a poor family or belong to the EWS or LIG income category. That is, your annual income should not be more than Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
• The government gives priority to people from SC, ST and minority groups in this scheme. Also, if you are a widow, disabled or elderly person, you can also get priority.

Note:– Beneficiaries are selected through a screening process. Therefore, you must also consider the list of beneficiaries for the West Bengal Awas Yojana.

Who Is Not Eligible for Paschim Banga Awas Scheme?

• Families who have a four-wheeler or tractor at home do not need to apply for this scheme.
• If your family has a refrigerator or a fishing boat, you may not be eligible for this scheme.
• If any member of your family is in a government job and the family’s monthly income is more than 10,000 to 15,000 taka, you cannot apply for this scheme.

Set of Documents For Verification

If you want to get money under this scheme on time, always submit correct and valid documents for verification. After submitting the application form, the concerned officials will verify your documents.

• Aadhaar Card: Aadhaar card must be submitted for identification through biometric or fingerprint.
• Voter ID: You must provide your active voter ID number.
• Ration Card: A ration card, such as BPL ration card, must be provided to prove financial status.
• Income Certificate: A certificate regarding the income of the family issued by the concerned authority must be provided.
• Bank Account Details: Account number, bank name and IFSC code must be provided.
• Property Documents: Property ownership documents must be provided, if any.
• Affidavit: An affidavit must be submitted stating that you do not own any pucca house.
• Class or Category Certificate: Relevant certificate must be provided, if applicable.
• Disability Certificate: If there is any disability or handicap, a certificate must be provided.

How Paschim Banga Awas Scheme Distributed Benefits?

If your name is already associated with this scheme, there is no need to apply again.

• You need to access the scheme’s online portal through the Panchayat or Municipality of West Bengal. Applications can also be submitted via the Awaas Plus App.
• Then, click on ‘Citizen Assessment and Report’ on the portal’s home page.
• Next, select your district, block, and panchayat.
• Now, check the Permanent Waiting List (PWL) to see if your name is included.
• You can also apply offline with the help of your Gram Panchayat official. The application form can be obtained from the BDO office.
• Fill out the form by hand, attach the necessary documents, and submit it.
• Subsequently, government officials will conduct a field verification to inspect your current house. If you are selected following the verification, you will be granted the benefits of the scheme.
