The West Bengal government has launched an online portal called janma-mrityutathya.wb.gov.in, which is known as the Birth and Death Information Portal. Through this portal, one can apply for birth and death certificates online. It also provides the facility to check the status of the application after applying and to apply for corrections if there are any errors in the certificate. Earlier, the common man had to apply for birth or death certificates at government offices. Now, since this can be done online, both the time and travel expenses of the people will be reduced.

• Discharge certificate and birth report from the hospital.
• Aadhaar Card of both the father and mother.
• Proof of permanent address of the parents, such as Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, Ration Card or Electricity Bill.
• Marriage Certificate of the parents.
• An active Mobile Number for OTP verification.

Death Certificate

• Death report or certificate from the hospital or doctor.
• Aadhaar Card of the deceased.
• Aadhaar Card of the person applying.
• Address proof of the deceased.
• Receipt from the crematorium or graveyard.

How to Verify Birth or Death Certificate Online

• First, visit the Janma Mrityu Tathya Portal and open the Certificate No Verification option.
• Now select whether you want to verify a Birth or Death Certificate.

• Enter the Certificate Number and provide the Date of Birth (DOB) or Date of Death (DOD) in the required format. Then click on Submit.
• You can also verify the certificate using its QR Code. For this, open the QR-Code Verification option and click on Scan QR Code.
• Allow the website to access your mobile camera and point the camera towards the QR Code printed on the certificate. The certificate can then be verified online.

How to Download Birth or Death Certificate?

• First, visit the official Janma Mrityu Tathya Portal from your mobile or computer.
• After opening the portal, select the Birth or Death Certificate service and look for the option to download the certificate.
• Enter the required Acknowledgement Number and fill in the Captcha Code. Then click on the Submit button.
• If the details are correct, your certificate will be available online. You can download it in PDF format and keep a printout for future use.
