The new BJP-led state government of West Bengal is going to identify those people from the state who were in jail during the 1975 Emergency under its new ‘West Bengal Loktantra Senani Samman’ scheme. Under this scheme, the government will identify a total of 325 people. After identifying them, the government will provide them with various benefits. Under this initiative, such individuals will be identified at the district level, and the government will honor them by extending various benefits.

- Monthly Pension: The 325 beneficiaries identified as the first beneficiary will each receive a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 from the government.

Why Was This Scheme Launched?
We all know that during the Emergency of 1975, a total of 100,000 people across India were imprisoned, and approximately 5,000 of them were residents of West Bengal. According to the State’s Chief Minister, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, the time has come to recognize and honor that sacrifice; for they are the very foundation of this state—it is because of them that we stand here today.
Qualification Required
To avail of the pension and other benefits under this scheme, you must fulfill the terms and conditions laid down by the West Bengal government.
- The applicant must be verified as a resident of the State of West Bengal at that time.
- The person must have been imprisoned during the National Emergency of 1975, i.e. from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977.
- For the pension to continue after the death of the actual beneficiary, his/her spouse must be alive. After verification, the spouse will be eligible for pension benefits under this scheme.
How to Select Under West Bengal 10,000 Monthly Pension For Prisoners of Emergency Era?
According to various reports, a total of 5,000 people were imprisoned from West Bengal during the 1975 Emergency. Now, the government has identified 325 people from that time and has taken the initiative to provide them with a monthly financial assistance or pension of Rs 10,000. The benefit of this monthly pension can also be received by the spouse of the beneficiary after his death.

Medical Allowance of Rs.1,000

- Personal Identification: Aadhaar Card and Voter ID Card should be submitted.
- Proof of West Bengal Residentship: Proof of West Bengal Residentship should be submitted.
- Bank Account Details: Xerox copy of bank passbook with account number and IFSC code should be submitted for getting monthly pension and medical allowance.
- Passport Size Photograph: A recent passport size photograph should be submitted.
- For spouse or dependent: Death certificate and proof of relationship should be submitted for claiming benefits in case of death of the actual beneficiary.
How to Get Benefits Under Paschimbanga Loktantra Senani Samman Scheme?
You can also get the benefits of this scheme offline. Because there is no specific format for submitting the form. So here I am telling you how to apply for these benefits.
- You have to write an application form and submit it to the District Magistrate of your area.
- In the application form, you have to give all your information, such as your name, which district you are a resident of, your address details and all the information required for this scheme. This includes the information about your stay in jail, i.e. the date of arrest and the date of release.
- Attach all the necessary documents as your proof with the application form. All the documents must be self-signed and submitted.
- Then go to the office of your District Magistrate and submit the application form and documents.
- After submitting your application form and documents, you will be given a receipt from the office. Later, you will take this receipt with you when you visit the office again to inquire about your application.
Verification Process
- The District Magistrate will review all your documents and the application form. Subsequently, the matter regarding your selection will be discussed locally with the assistance of administrative authorities.
- You must fill out the application form. After submission, it will be forwarded to the designated representative of the Chief Authority in West Bengal.
- Funds will be disbursed to the beneficiaries following the completion of all necessary screening and approval processes.
