West Bengal Pink Card For Women: Benefits and Eligibility

Pink Card is associated with the West Bengal Free Travel Scheme. Under this scheme, the government provides free public transport to women commuters for their daily commute from home to their destination.By providing this facility to women in West Bengal, the government helps them reduce their monthly travel expenses. When this scheme was launched, the BJP government of West Bengal had allowed all the beneficiaries to get free travel in public buses by showing only their Aadhaar card. But later the government said that soon women will also be given an identity card to store their identity, travel and other information. And hence this card is known as the West Bengal Pink Card.

After getting this pink card for free travel, you can travel without any hassle by just tapping the card. The government also wants to ensure that only the genuine beneficiaries get the benefit of this free travel.

West Bengal Pink Card

In the initial phase of the free bus travel scheme for women in the state of West Bengal, women were allowed to avail the benefits of the scheme by showing only their Aadhaar cards until the beneficiaries were issued pink cards. So when women travelled in public buses, the conductor would check their Aadhaar cards and issue them zero tickets. However, sometimes these zero tickets were misused.

That is why the government has decided to launch the Pink Card. It is a digital card, which will contain the woman’s details and her travel information. This West Bengal Pink Digital Card will also help maintain transparency in the project.

What is West Bengal Free Travel Scheme For Women?

The government made many promises to attract women voters in the state of West Bengal. One of them was that if the state wins the elections, women will be provided with free transportation facilities. There is also another scheme called Annapurna Scheme, under which the West Bengal government provides financial assistance of Rs 3,000 per month to women. Both these schemes have now been officially launched by the government.

This scheme provides monthly financial assistance to eligible women. Under this scheme, students, workers or any other female commuters can travel free in public transport. By launching this scheme, the government is helping women save on their travel expenses. And they can use this money for other purposes other than travel expenses or save for the future.

As a result, women’s commuting costs will decrease. At the same time, they will be able to travel easily for essential purposes such as education, healthcare, and employment.

What is the West Bengal Pink Card?

• Government ID: Anyone can use Aadhaar card. But it is not possible to keep track of daily zero tickets through Aadhaar card. Therefore, the government has launched this pink card. This card is a digital identity card, which eligible women can use as a beneficiary identity card of this scheme.

Through this card, women can travel free of cost in government buses for short or long distances. Women have to carry this card with them while travelling and tap the card on the conductor’s vending machine. After tapping the card, the name of the woman and travel information will be added to the system. As a result, it will be possible to keep track of how many times and where she is travelling every day.

• Maintaining transparency: The government is using this pink card to ensure that only genuine women beneficiaries get the benefits of this scheme. Through this, it will be easy to verify the identity of the beneficiaries and keep track of free travel.

Requirement For Card

To get this card online or offline, you need to fulfill its conditions by submitting the required documents.

• Aadhaar Card: Aadhaar card must be provided as an identity card for women.
• Voter Card: You must submit your voter card as proof of residence.
• Passport Size Photograph: A clear, colored and passport size photograph must be provided.
• Mobile Number: You must provide your active mobile number to complete the registration and update new information.

How to Get this West Bengal Pink Card?

There are two ways to get this card. One is online and the other is offline. You can apply for the Pink Card using whichever method is easier for you.

Online Process for WB Pink Card

• The official portal of the West Bengal State Government should be opened.
• After opening the home page of the portal, find the option of Pink Card there.
• Then the new female applicants have to sign up and create an account with their personal details and mobile number.
• Sign in to the account and fill the required information in the form one by one. Then upload the required documents and check the form carefully.
• If all the information is correct, submit the documents along with the form. Then the concerned department will verify the information and documents provided by you.
• If the application is approved, a message will come on the mobile number you provided. After that, you can download the Pink Card or the digital card will be delivered to the address you provided.

Offline Mode Process

If you choose the offline method, you will have to collect the form—

• From BDO office
• From Municipality office

After collecting the form, fill it and attach the photocopies of the necessary documents with your signature. After that, you can submit the form and documents manually to the same office.

Through Jan Kalyan Shibir: Another way through which you can easily apply for a Pink Card is through Jan Kalyan Shibir. Because in these camps, the government arranges to provide various public welfare schemes and government services. Officials of various departments are also present there during the camp. So you can easily apply for various schemes or services. However, this camp will probably start in the month of November-December.
